For a brief time, I completely forgot that as a patient, I have the right to say "No."

Chronic in the kitchen: Preserving summer
Autumn has moved in, and while the days may be getting shorter and cooler, summer lingers on at farmers’ markets. This is one of my favorite times of year for fresh produce - tomatoes, corn, beans, herbs and berries are all at the end of their growing season, and are particularly flavorful and abundant right now. You can and should enjoy all of this good stuff now, while it’s fresh and at the peak of its flavor, but you can also preserve fresh fruits and veggies with a minimum of time and fuss… spend a few hours in the kitchen and you can enjoy the taste of summer for months to come.

MacGyver Morrone and the little black dress
It was short. It was low cut. It was ever-so slightly slinky. It was the opening gala for the Newport Film Festival and the dress code was "a little bit dressy." Seriously, when can you go wrong with a little black dress? It always looks classy and simple and suitable for almost every occasion. I had a beautiful one from Ann Taylor in the closet. Just grab a pair of black heels, some sparkly (fake) jewelry, and slip into that dress. No problem...until I went to slip into my Something Most Comfortable: namely, my insulin pump that I wear to manage my type one diabetes.
